Master of Science Admission Requirements

A bachelor's degree in a travel-related, hospitality management or business field from an accredited institution is recommended for admission. Applicants with degrees in other fields are also encouraged to apply.

Minimum admission standards include an academic grade point average equivalent to 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale in baccalaureate work. 

Applicants are required to take either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). 

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 560 paper-based test or 220 computer-based test.  However, applicants admitted with TOEFL scores of less than 600 paper-based test or 250 computer-based test are required to take English Language Instruction (ELI) courses.  The TOEFL requirement is waived only for applicants who have earned a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution in the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore or the United Kingdom.

Three letters of recommendation must be sent to the School of Travel Industry Management, addressing the ability of the applicant to succeed in graduate study as well as to make future contributions to the travel industry. At least one letter should be from a person familiar with the applicant's academic work. In addition, work experience, preferably at a supervisory or managerial level in the travel industry or related field, is highly desirable.

Consideration of admission to the MS/TIM program will start after the receipt of all application materials.  Please note that parts of the application are sent separately to the following two offices:

To the Graduate Division Admissions Office

  • Completed application form
  • One copy of official transcripts directly mailed from all colleges and universities attended
  • Official GRE or GMAT scores
  • Official TOEFL score (if required)

To the School of Travel Industry Management

  • Supplemental Information Form (part of main application form)
  • One copy of resume of academic and professional background
  • Three letters of recommendation in English
All application materials must be submitted by the following dates:

  • March 1 for fall semester admission
  • September 1 for spring semester admission
