Donation Opportunities

Donation Opportunities

You can now make a gift, a pledge, or a payment to an existing pledge online. Click here to make a payment now.

There are many ways for you to give to the TIM School. By investing in the TIM School, you not only support further education and research in tourism, but your contribution may also help to reduce your taxes. Some areas of funding support include:

  • Endowments to fund professorships
  • Graduate fellowships to support bright students from Hawaii and around the world
  • Funding for computer and multi-media equipment that helps the continued development of the Gee Technology Learning Center (opened Fall 2002) and Distance Education Programs

Types of Support

Outright Gifts

An outright gift is a direct transfer of an asset to the School. Outright gifts may be made with cash, securities, stock, a life insurance policy, real estate and personal property such as art. Gifts of this kind produce a greater benefit to the donor because of capital gains tax savings.

Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts offer an opportunity to invest in the future of the School while continuing to receive income. Depending on the type of gift, donors retain the right for a designated beneficiary or beneficiaries, including the donor, to receive income from the donated assets. After the death of the income beneficiary or beneficiaries, or a set number of years, the gift becomes available to the School for the purpose designated by the donor.

Gifts in Honor or Memory

A gift to the School in honor or memory of someone is a thoughtful and lasting way to honor a friend or family member or to acknowledge a special event.

Bequests

Bequests under the terms of a will or living trust of cash, securities, or real property to the UH Foundation, for the benefit of the School, entitles your estate to a charitable deduction that can reduce or even eliminate estate tax liability. There are several different types of bequests you can make: a specific dollar gift, a percentage of your estate, and the remaining assets of your estate after specific distributions have been made to relatives or friends.
