TIM Internship (6 credits)

Students must complete 800 hours of work experience in the travel industry and earn credit for TIM 100 (2 cr), TIM 200 (2 cr), and either TIM 300 (2 cr), or 400B or 400C.  The following general guidelines should be followed in completing the internship program:

  1. Students should complete TIM 100 during their first year in TIM, ideally during their first semester.
  2. Students should complete the first 400 hours of approved internship field experience at least by the end of their sophomore year at which time they should enroll in TIM 200.
  3. Students should complete their second 400 hours of approved internship field experience by the end of their junior year at which time they should enroll in TIM 300.
  4. The specific semester in which a student enrolls in TIM 200 or 300 should be the semester in which you complete the corresponding 400-hour field experience, or at the most, the semester immediately after the completion of the field experience. Waiting more than a semester after completing the field experience to enroll in TIM 200 or 300 may result in having that field experience voided.

60 Credit Rule
A minimum of 60 credits of upper-division or non-introductory course work must be completed. Upper division courses have a course number of 300 or higher. Non-introductory courses are those numbered 200-299 that have a specific college level prerequisite. For example, PSY 250 is non-introductory as Psy 100 is the prerequisite. SP 251 is NOT non-introductory as it has no prerequisite. ENG 250-257 are specifically excluded and DO NOT count as non-introductory.

Courses that meet these criteria that are completed as part of your other degree requirements DO count toward the 60 required credits, e.g. MATH 205, ACC 202, the second year of foreign language, all of the TIM upper division core courses, TIM major courses other than TIM 100 and TIM 101.

To complete this requirement, a number of electives must be taken. The number of elective credits any specific student will need depends on choices made in other areas, e.g. which calculus course is completed, which foreign language is selected. Generally, 9 to 15 elective credits will be required. However, the total may be as high as 23 if a waiver of the foreign language requirement is received.

See an adviser if you are not sure how many elective credits you need.

Elective courses may be selected from any department, including TIM courses, to meet this requirement. Elective courses may be completed as Cr/NC UNLESS it is also a writing intensive course (W).  W courses must be taken for a letter grade.

Grade Point Ratio Requirements
The following minimum grade point ratios are required to earn the BS in TIM:

2.0 cumulative

2.0 in the upper division TIM core

2.5 in the TIM Emphasis.
