Po'okela Program
About the Program
The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa School of Travel Industry Management is proud to introduce its first-ever Student Excellence Program. Po‘okela means “outstanding, foremost or champion” and the goal of this program is to help our students achieve their greatest potential by:
- Enhancing a student’s academic experience
- Providing networking opportunities
- Providing students with additional skills that may not be available in a classroom or internship
- Helping students become more competitive in the job market
Who is eligible?
All classified UHM TIM students (undergraduates and graduate students) are encouraged to join. We recommend, to fully benefit from this program, that you join during your junior year (for undergraduates). This program is not an honor roll program and is intended for all who are seeking to excel and develop themselves.
What can I look forward to as a participant of the program?
Students enrolled in the program will be invited to attend various events and seminars which may include:
- Real Life with the Experts
- Toastmasters International
- Hawaii Tourism Authority Meetings and Seminars
- Etiquette Workshops
- Hot Topic Discussions Sessions
- And much more …
How does it work?
You will receive points for participation in each event and must attend at least three Po‘okela events each semester in order to remain active. Points may vary depending on the nature of the event. Students must wear professional business attire to all events unless otherwise specified. There is no membership fee for this program and your participation in other TIM student organizations is not counted towards points in this program. Upon graduation, recognition will be given to those who have committed to the program at a special TIM graduation ceremony.
